We have always seen artists as people who respond sensitively to the problems of their own age and to challenges affecting the prosperity of the community. Art and science found one another in the experimental laboratories of 20th century design teaching, and this opened totally new perspectives. The programme for the linkage of the two areas was represented most consistently by György Kepes, a painter, photographer and theoretician of Hungarian origin. Using interviews, archive recordings and recollections, the film covers the remarkable career of Kepes, little-known moments from the birth of media art, furthermore, the gripping story of the meeting of art and technology influenced by politics, wars, the art market and industry.
The screening is part of the 30th Anniversary Light Symposium program organized by the International Kepes Society at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME).
