Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor. When diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease, Alice and her family find their bonds thoroughly tested. Alice tries everything she can in order to slow down the process from memorizing random words to setting up important questions on her phone she tries to answer every morning. But relations with her family are strained from many separate directions, and as the disease inevitably progresses, even the very thought of suicide becomes acceptable. Alice's struggle to stay connected to who she once was is frightening, heartbreaking, and inspiring at the same time. Julianne Moore won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film.
